WHAT TO BRING OR WEAR (RECOMMENDATION)
  • Lightweight cotton clothing (breathable T-shirts or long-sleeved tops, with shorts/long pants)
  • Long pants & long-sleeved shirts – protect from mosquitoes, leeches, and sunburn
  • Comfortable trekking/walking shoes – with good grip for jungle trails
  • Sandals/flip-flops – for indoor use around the lodge
  • Hat/Cap & raincoat – for sun protection and unexpected showers
  • Drinking water bottle (reusable, to stay hydrated)
  • Insect repellent & sunblock – a must in tropical forests
  • Binoculars – great for spotting birds and wildlife
  • Torchlight/Headlamp – useful for night safaris and lodge use
  • Camera with zoom lenses – ideal for wildlife photography
  • Leech socks – strongly recommended for jungle walks
  • Personal toiletries – shampoo, soap, toothbrush, etc.
  • Birds of Borneo / Mammals of Borneo guidebook (optional but great for wildlife lovers)
  • Light sweater/jacket – nights can get chilly in the forest
  • Small backpack/daypack – for carrying essentials during excursions

  • Do not bring valuables (jungle lodges have no safekeeping facilities).
  • Keep a safe distance from wildlife – no touching or approaching.
  • Accommodation is basic and rustic (not resort-style) – expect adventure, not luxury.
  • There is no mobile signal or internet at Deramakot — enjoy the digital detox!

* Pickup time from hotel varies depending on your hotel location and traffic conditions, please reconfirm with our staff on the actual timing. Should the transport is delayed; kindly contact the hotline numbers stated on your tour voucher before making alternative arrangements.

* If you are arriving at Sandakan Airport on the day of your tour, our friendly English speaking tour guide will meet and greet you at the Arrival Hall with a placard bearing your good name.

Itinerary

DAY 1 | Sandakan / Kota Kinabalu → Telupid → Deramakot (L/D)

  • 9:00am – Pick-up from hotel (Kota Kinabalu or Sandakan).
  • Scenic 4–5 hour drive to Telupid; lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Continue 2-hour 4WD journey through plantations, logging areas, and secondary forest before arriving at Deramakot.
  • Check in at lodge/chalet and rest.
  • Evening: Dinner at the dining hall.
  • Night Safari (8:00pm): 4WD drive in search of nocturnal animals — look out for civets, leopard cats, slow loris, and the rare Clouded Leopard.
  • Return to lodge for overnight stay.

 

Day 2: Deramakot Wildlife Exploration (B/L/D)

  • Pre-dawn Safari (4:00am): Early 4WD excursion to spot endemic species such as orangutans, elephants, and hornbills.
  • Return to lodge for breakfast.
  • Morning: Optional jungle walk or relax in the rainforest setting; great time for birdwatching.
  • Lunch at the lodge.
  • Evening Safari (4:30pm–6:00pm): Dusk drive to see mammals and birds at their most active.
  • Dinner at the dining hall.
  • Night Safari (after dinner): Another chance to spot elusive nocturnal wildlife.
  • Overnight at Deramakot Forest Reserve.

Day 3: Deramakot → Sandakan / Kota Kinabalu (B/L)

  • Early morning walk — last opportunity to encounter wildlife in their natural habitat.
  • Breakfast at the lodge.
  • Check-out and depart by 4WD.
  • Lunch at a local restaurant en route.
  • Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu or Sandakan; drop-off at your hotel.
